Noss is a small island, off the island of Bressay, off the Shetland mainland.To get there, you'll need to take a ferry to Bressay, and follw signs for Noss (about a three mile drive). From the car park, you walk down the track to the small jetty. You're spotted by the warden who comes to collect you in a small inflatable boat.

The Isle of Noss [5] or Noss ( Scots: Noss) is a small, previously inhabited island in Shetland, Scotland. Noss is separated from the island of Bressay by the narrow Noss Sound. It has been run as a sheep farm since 1900, [4] and has been a national nature reserve since 1955. [6]

The wedge shaped Isle of Noss which rises to a height of 181 metres at the Noup dominates the east coast of Shetland . Over millions of years the hard and soft layers of the sandstone have been eroded by wind, rain and sea. This has created a series of crevices and ledges on the eastern cliffs, ideal for nesting seabirds.

The island is open from 10am to 5pm (except Mondays and Thursdays) from late May to the end of August. A red flag is flown on the island if it is closed. Visitors should wait at the sign on the shore at Noss Sound for collection by the boat. A walk around the perimeter of Noss will take at least three hours.
