Southend-on-Sea is town and seaside resort on the north side of the Thames Estuary in Essex. Originally a small fishing community, the town was developed in the 19th century and boasts the longest leisure pier in the world, Southend Pier, which is more than a mile long. Other seaside attractions include a Cliff Lift, Adventure Island fairground, Sea-Life Adventure, and seven miles of beaches.
