edit: it's very conditional if it's better than custom. If you plan on good/neutral playthrough, DU background may turn out detrimental and wasteful (you miss out on stuff if you stay good guy). If you plan to be evil, it's a huge improvement over "normal Tav" as DU background encourages you to act evil. Sometimes it is better.

this is probably the answer. if you go into the install folder and then data folder you can even see a big file called gustav. It is 'Project Gustav' You're not imagining it. My fan theory it's modeled after the lines of Shakespeare: 'There never was a tale of greater woe..'. Well you know the rest.

I always just type in a name in my rerolls and never even noticed the default wasn't random. 113. Sort by: As a reference to that name, when you create a new character it's called Tav by default. And the community simply started using Tav when referring to the player's main character. โข.

Tav still has value if you want to play the game without feeling like a psycho on account of a voice whispering in your ear to do unspeakable things. If you want to play an ordinary soldier, a tranquil monk or a virtuous paladin then Dark Urge doesn't fit. Conversely, if you want to play an evil cleric or warlock, you might want to establish.

Interestingly : in the Book of Ezekiel, Tav (Taw) is the marking for those that were safe from the destruction of Jerusalem. It would make a nice parallel with BG3's Tav and other being safe from the illithid transformation.

I was going to make a game or two with these characters at some point too. Super slight spoilers for the Lae'zel intro scene, but here's my (durge) Tav, Persephone! She's an oath of vengeance paladin/storm sorcerer, kinda loosely based on an old Star Wars: The Old Republic character I played years ago.
