Well, sometimes second sight comes with the benefit of experience, once absence has worked its magic on the heart. (Re)Enter the Casio MDV106-1A "Duro," a $44, stainless steel dive watch running on batteries and quartz. I owned and sold one of these 20bar bargains about six months ago, before purchasing a second one for the purpose of this.

I was allowed to change the strap from the original rubber strap to this James Bond style NATO strap and it compliments the watch perfectly. For such a low priced watch this thing is beautifully made.

The gold Duro got a black Ritche canvas strap with red stitching and a gold buckle ($18.99). You could say the Casio MDV-106 Duro is a "poor man's Submariner" - a watch with most of the looks, all of the ruggedness and none of the cachet of a high-end automatic tool watch. Or you could say the Duro's the "sensible man's Submariner.

I think mostly its just a functionality and comfort thing for military purposes. Less likely to get ruined than steel. The Watchdives Nylon Watch Band on Amazon is my favourite of all my NATOs. It's a really nice, silky, seatbelt nylon, with sturdy hardware. Only $10 off Amazon. For the Duro, 22mm is the best fit.

Casio Duro has New Colours MR STATELESS
I like the look of nato but i often wear it while swimming and working so the watch and strap often get dirty, mudy and grimy nato would just make it a shit ton harder for me to clean but i might as well pull a trigger on another casio duro (perhaps half black half blue bezel and black dial version) and put a nato on that and factory rubber one on the one i currently own.
