The Double Second Pan, designed by Ellie Mannette, is comprised of two pans, similar to the Double Tenor, but with a warm, dark and more mellow tone. Double Seconds are comprised of two barrels and are in a lower range than lead pans. They are more effective playing harmony while still being high pitched enough to be a melody instrument. The lowest note is about a half octave below middle C and the instrument has a range of about 2 & 1/2 octaves chromatic.
